Political and Civic Engagement

Inspired by the Sisters of St. Joseph, member campuses seek to teach and provide spaces for students to make a difference in the local and world community. Democratic engagement requires students’ political participation.  Through voter registrations, educational forums, and academic coursework, the Association of Colleges of Sisters of St. Joseph's member campuses are educating and mobilizing students to be engaged local and global citizens.

Voter Van
On election day, St. Kate's voter van took resident students to and from the St. Paul campus polling location from 8 am to 8pm. 180 students used the voter van, and 73% of them were first-time voters. As students returned from the polls, they shared comments such as "I'm making a change in the world!" and "I feel taller. I feel important." Senior Emaan Soliman said, "I got my citizenship last year so I felt very excited to be able to vote for the first time this election. As a woman of color, voting is very important to me and I am grateful I have this right." We continue to be amazed and inspired by our civic-minded Katies!
