In this presentation, Dr. Ryan Murphy shared his reflections about his experience on the ACSSJ pilgrimage and the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and how it continues to shape his teaching, research, and ministry at Chestnut Hill College.

In June 2023, Ryan P. Murphy, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Sociology, was a faculty leader on an ACSSJ pilgrimage to Le Puy, France—where the Sisters of St. Joseph were founded in 1650. This pilgrimage was offered to students from the Association of Colleges of Sisters of St. Joseph institutions in the United States. In all, 17 students and 3 staff members from 9 ACSSJ institutions traveled to France to walk in the footsteps of those first six sisters—immersing themselves in the history, mission, and charism that animate our ACSSJ colleges and universities.

The 2023 ACSSJ faculty development series included responses to a survey of faculty across our institutions, focusing on perceptions of both changes in student learning and adaptations in teaching predicated on their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 300 ACSSJ faculty provided their insights in the survey, and panelists in each session responded to those insights with regard to themes related to technology and student learning, development, and support.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 10, 2023

The first installment of the series featured faculty from four ACSSJ campuses discussing “technology”, broadly interpreted, and how it has impacted teaching on our campus. While some embraced synchronous instruction and other technologies for the first time in March 2020, others have used these tools successfully for years.  Panelists offered their own expertise and insights into how we continue to improve student learning and engagement through the use of technology.
