Saint Rose Enters Articulation Agreement with Bard High School Early College Program
The College of Saint Rose signed an articulation agreement with Bard High School Early College on Tuesday, June 19.  The transition will create a smoother transition for new students coming to Saint Rose after graduating with an associate’s degree from Bard College.​

The Writer's Foundry Presents "Life After the MFA"
The Writer’s Foundry at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host an event entitled “Life After the MFA” to showcase and celebrate the opportunities that exist with an advanced degree in creative writing. Avila University Faculty Attend University of Notre Dame’s Peace Studies Summer Institute
Three faculty members from Avila University came together to attend the tenth annual Summer Institute for Faculty at the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies from June 11-15.  The team developed a five-year strategic plan for a new peace studies program during their time at the Summer Institute.​

Redesigned Master of Science in Computer Science Announced
Fontbonne University is launching a redesigned  Master of Science in Computer Science.  The new program focuses on theoretical and practical application of computer science. Students are able to choose from one of three specializations: software engineering, cybersecurity and data science.​

Deserving Students Benefit from 9th Annual Scholarship Gala
More than 200 people attended Chestnut Hill College's 2018 Scholarship Gala on May 5.  Gala participants raised a record number of proceeds, specifically $300,000, to benefit student academic scholarships.​

Admission Decisions Not Impacted by Peaceful Protest Participation 
The College of Saint Rose respects, supports, and admires students who stand up for their beliefs in an effort to improve the world around them. Prospective students who are disciplined by their schools for peaceful protests about gun violence will not have it counted against them in the admissions process at Saint Rose.

Alumna and Student Among Minnesota Business "Women Who Lead" 2018 Honorees
Daphne April Jalteco '20 and Kathleen Carter '83 were among those honored by Minnesota Business as "Women Who Lead". The honorees are women who lead tirelessly every day by example, supporting and empowering others. According to the magazine, "These women not only climb the ladder of success, they also lend a hand to those coming up behind them."

Fontbonne Lanuches ED.D. in Collaborative High Impact Instruction 
The Ed.D in Collaborative High Impact Instruction, a 51-hour program to be completed in 2.5 to 3 years, is designed to support teachers interested in deepening and expanding their practice. The degree is meant for educators of all kinds, from K-12 teachers to corporate trainers and health literacy advocates. Admission requirements include holding a master’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Candidates may apply online here.

SJC Awarded Grant to Combat Violence
St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it was awarded a grant of more than $299,000 from the Department of Justice’s Office of Violence Against Women. The grant will allow both SJC Long Island and SJC Brooklyn to develop programs and policies to prevent and address sexual assault, stalking, domestic violence and dating violence over the next three years.

Sister Mary Anne Heenan, CSJ, Elected Chair of the Board of Trustees
The College of Saint Rose Board of Trustees announced on December 6, 2017, that Sister Mary Anne Heenan, CSJ, has been elected Chair of the Board. An alumna of Saint Rose, Sister Mary Anne is the director of the Albany Province of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, the religious order that founded Saint Rose, and a former school superintendent.

SJC Introduces Mindfulness Minor
St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the introduction of its newest minor, Mindfulness and Contemplative Living, available at both SJC Long Island and SJC Brooklyn in spring 2018. SJC is one of the first colleges to offer this minor, which teaches students how to appreciate the importance of calmness and concentration in order to create an atmosphere in which clarity, wisdom and compassion thrive.

Spring Human/ Sex Trafficking Training Program Registration Now Open
This fall, in partnership with the Incarnate Word Foundation, Fontbonne University launched a five-day program for social service professionals involved in the identification, prevention and treatment of human/sex trafficking victims and survivors. Registration for the next session, scheduled to take place throughout March, is now open.

A panel of mental health experts explored schizophrenia and bi-polar disorders and addressed the increase in mental health diagnoses that affect more than 1 in 100 people throughout the world at the President’s Lecture Series on Health at Regis.

Fontbonne Set to Aquire Now-Closed John F. Kennedy Catholic High School
Fontbonne University is purchasing the campus of John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Manchester, Mo., currently owned by the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the university announced at a press conference Monday, Nov. 20. The property will serve as a campus extension for the university, providing additional space for academic and athletic growth. The final transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, as well as zoning and financial contingencies. Financial details are not currently available.

Avila University Joins with U.S. Catholic Community to Deliver Climate Change Letter to President Trump and Congress

Avila University has joined with leaders of 161 Catholic communities in every state of the nation, in issuing a letter to President Trump and the U.S. Congress in support of climate change science, funding and international policy negotiations. The letter was organized by Catholic Climate Covenant and signed by Catholic colleges and universities, religious congregations, national organizations, and health care providers.

Victor and William Fung Foundation Grants Regis $5 Million to Establish the Fung Scholars Program
The Victor and William Fung Foundation in Hong Kong has donated $5 million to the Now We Fly campaign to establish the Fung Scholars Program at Regis, a leading Catholic university in Greater Boston. The program will support high-achieving students from Hong Kong and Mainland China who want to study abroad in the United States. The gift is in the name of alumna Julia Shen Fung, Victor’s wife, who graduated from Regis in 1967 and made the gift in honor of her 50th Reunion in 2017.

Girls- In- Science 
Two years ago, Lane-deGraaf set out to create a space for middle school-aged girls to engage in science and to see women scientists in action. Her Girls-In-Science Summer Science Research Experience, held throughout two weeks on Fontbonne’s campus, began in 2015 with just five girls and no funding. This year, she was able to host 24 — and pay three female undergraduates as assistants — with the help of a $14,000 grant from Monsanto Fund and a donation from the Wells Fargo Foundation.

Fontbonne University Alum Named 2017 Nonprofit Executive of the Year by St. Louis
Fontbonne University alumnus Halbert Sullivan has been named 2017 Nonprofit Executive of the Year by the St. Louis American. Sullivan is the founding president and CEO of Father’s Support Center, which promotes fathers’ involvement in their children’s lives through intensive job training, group therapy, community service and parenting workshops.

Medical Trailblazer to Address Race-based Medical and Health Inequalities 
Race-based inequities in U.S. medicine and public health are the subject of the 7 p.m. Thursday, November 2 talk at The College of Saint Rose by Dr. Vanessa Northington Gamble, who led the 1997 committee that secured a Presidential apology for the treatment of black patients in the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. Sand Painting by Tibetan Buddhist Monks
Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct a mandala sand painting and perform special ceremonies at Alumnae Library from Oct. 23-27, beginning with an opening ceremony on Monday, Oct. 23, from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m.  During the ceremony the lamas use chanting, music and mantra recitation to consecrate the site and call forth the forces of goodness.

If You See a Red Flag, Say Something
Statistics show that nationally, more than half of all college students (57%) say that it’s difficult to identify dating abuse. Avila University is raising awareness through a “Red Flag” campaign as one of the events for National Dating/Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). Scattered on the lawn in front of the campus dining hall are red surveying flags with handwritten “red flag” statements that are typical warning signs of sexual assault, dating violence or stalking.​

STEM Pre-schoolers in Weston Get Salty Visit from the U.S Congresswoman Clark
U.S. Congresswoman Katherine Clark (5th District-MA) joined pre-schoolers for a lab tutorial on water displacement through the STEM program at the Regis Children’s Center. The pre-schoolers wore lab coats and goggles and work with salt to draw water out of apples and potatoes.

Avila University's Upward Bound Receives $1.4 Million Federal Grant
Avila University’s Upward Bound program has received a generous new federal grant from the Department of Education. The grant totals $1.4 million over the next five years and will make it possible to serve 60 additional students from Northeast High School and Central High School in Kansas City, MO.

Saint Rose Biology Students Help Professor Research Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Dr. Rebecca Landsberg, a Saint Rose biology professor, has been collaborating with students to study the effects that fetal alcohol syndrome has on the precerebellar system.  ​They have presented posters at the College’s annual undergraduate research symposium and before the Northeast meeting of the Society for Developmental Biology.​

Maxims on the Wall

In 1650, the Sisters of St. Joseph were presented with 100 maxims, or short prayer guides to live by. This year, 3 of these maxims have been painted on the walls around Chestnut Hill College’s campus in order to promote and deepen the Sisters’ messages of of love, service, and inclusion.

How Does CHC's Garden Grow?
Members of the Griffin Garden Club, which started in 2014, laid the foundations of CHC's community garden from scratch.  Since then, the garden has expanded, and the fresh fruits and vegetables that are grown are donated to food kitchens and homeless shelters near the College and in the greater Philadelphia area​.​

Art Comes to Life for Young Artists at Fontbonne Workshop
This summer, eight St. Louis.  teenagers immersed themselves in an intense, four-week college-level drawing and painting experience at Fontbonne University.  The students were taught by university-level instructors who are active local artists.

University Community Mourns the Death of Mary Thompson, CSL, '53, Professor Emerita
Professor emerita Mary Thompson, CSJ (Sister Gertrude), died on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at age 89. A St. Catherine University alumna, class of 1953, she was a professor of chemistry at the University from 1964 to 2000.

SJC Partners With TZU Chi University in Taiwan
St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Tzu Chi University (TCU) in Hualien, Taiwan to provide for the exchange of students and faculty over the next two years between the two institutions. As part of this agreement, 20 SJC students from both SJC Brooklyn and SJC Long Island will study at Tzu Chi’s campus in Hualien, Taiwan this summer.​

Enhanced Tuition Award Application Available
The Enhanced Tuition Award (ETA) is a new program that The College of Saint Rose – along with only 29 other New York State private universities and colleges – will offer its students for the 2017-18 academic year. It provides qualified New York State residents who apply and are chosen by New York State with up to $6,000 toward their tuition. Saint Rose is the only Capital Region institution to opt in to this new program aimed at making college a more affordable investment.

Sister Carol has now served as president of Chestnut Hill College for 25 years during which time the College has experienced vast transformation.
